TIPS TO CHOOSE CORRECTLY

There are so many childcare options out there, but how do you know they are the right ones for your family?  Here are some tips for you to consider as you search for the right childcare provider for your family.

RESEARCH

  • You need to research and do your homework before leaving your child with just anybody.  Ask for referrals from friends and family that have used a childcare facility in the past.  Ask for references from wherever you are researching.  Look at their online reputation, sometimes no reviews or ratings are better than a bad rating.  What kind of facilities do they offer?  What kind of team will work with your child?  What’s the security like?

OBSERVE

  • When you walk into the facility, look at the children, are they having fun?  Are they engaged in the process?  Are the teachers connecting with the kids?  Are the teachers looking like they are having fun?  Look at everything on the walls, in the cabinets, on the floor, is it taken care of?  Is the facility clean?  Look at everything including the drop off and pick up process.

ASK QUESTIONS

  • The most important thing you can do is ask questions, and no, there are no stupid questions.  Bring a pad of paper or use your phone to take notes.  This is a great way to not confuse the child care centers you are checking out.  Ask questions to both the teachers and the director.  You can see a list of questions and things to look for on our “WHAT TO LOOK FOR” tab under our “PARENT RESOURCES” page.

DON’T CHECK OUT

  • Parents, your child needs you to remain active in their development, and we do to.  Don’t be afraid to ask for updates and reports on your child.  Find out what growth opportunities there are for your child and help them through that process at home.  Feel free to make suggestions.  The point is, finding the right childcare center is not the end, it’s just the beginning.
